JOB TITLE:              Senior Media Manager – Press & Out of Home

     Media Director

    £47,500 - £57,500 plus bonus

The Senior Media Manager – Press & OOH will be responsible for maximising barter/trading capabilities with newsbrand, magazine and OOH media owners and servicing key agency relationships. In addition the SMM will work in partnership with Active’s other Senior Media Manager – Press & OOH overseeing the day-to-day running of the Press & OOH team. 



Strategic Planning:

  • Assist the Media Director in ensuring the effective implementation of the company’s strategic plans (including key objectives of the 3-Year Plan), and setting of related targets and business plans for the team.
  • Create and implement a strategic vision and plan for the development of your accounts, media partners, and direct reports, in accordance with the Media Director’s expectations.
  • Accountable for the overall performance of newsbrand and magazine trading capabilities.
  • Take a leading role in team meetings and encourage adoption of company culture and standards


  • Persuade media partners on the acceptance of barter as payment for media space, and conduct such trades on behalf of Active’s clients across both Press and OOH.
  • Explore and create deal structures with the relevant media partners to this end, ensuring suitable account management practices are both created and followed.
  • In conjunction with the Commercial Department, present relevant ‘barter-friendly’ media solutions within agency and client plans.
  • Promote and encourage the team to sell preferential commercial opportunities, such as sponsorships and partnerships.
  • Build strong & successful relationships with key decision makers and influencers at media agencies, press & OOH specialists, and media partners.
  • Regularly review patch KPIs (profit / billings / Trade Credit expenditure / Cross Purchase) in order to identify new and maximise current opportunities.
  • Provide regular and constructive feedback to Media Director relating to performance in both immediate commercial terms and also with reference to media partner account management.
  • Partner with the Commercial Department to increase penetration of current clients in media and accelerate benefits to both clients and Active International.
  • Provide Media team support for the Commercial Department as required.
  • Co-ordinate and support relationships between our media partners and the Travel & Events and business Services’ Team’s to deliver expedient and profitable barter benefits to our media partners.
  • Ownership of data in our internal system (iPows) to ensure input and billing are completed in a timely and accurate manner.
 Team Management:
  • Responsible for people management of the Press & OOH team (one direct report) helping to nurture, assess and train to ensure development and progression.
  • Document and monitor team KPIs (profit/billings/Trade Credit expenditure/Cross Purchase) to continually review and improve Media Department performance overall.
  • Conduct team Development Plan in a timely manner and ensure objectives are fit for purpose, clearly documented and review regularly.
  • To be internal expert for all things Press, ensuring continued education for the rest of the team & business, including crib sheets and quarterly presentation updates.
  • Promote team self-development.
  • Regularly feedback to the Media Director to ensure they’re kept fully informed on any developments that may require their input or that may impact their dealings with either agencies or media partners.
  • Performing other duties and responsibilities as may be assigned to you from time to time.
Knowledge, Experience and Skills Required
  • Experience of working within the Media industry.
  • Experience of working with Barter/Corporate Trade.
  • Experience of working in a Corporate Trade company within the UK is strongly preferred.
  • Proven experience as a Senior Account Manager.
  • Is a self-starter – Active & barter is a push-model and you will need the ambition to make things happen, i.e. meetings, presentations, lunches, etc.
  • Can clearly demonstrate personal drive and initiative.
  • Can constructively deliver feedback and ideas to members of the Leadership Team.
  • Ability to absorb direction and fulfil internal and external directives.
  • Driven to effectively work towards individual and group targets, goals & deadlines.
  • Can be trusted to undertake and complete management requests in appropriate timescales
  • Ability to prioritise own workload and meet deadlines accordingly.
