Management

Dean Wilson Chief Executive Officer, International Division

Dean joined Active International in 2005 and in 2016, became Chief Executive Officer of the International Division. 

Dean has worked in the media industry since graduating from Leeds University in 1994. Prior to joining Active International, he held various commercial roles at Television Sales and Marketing Services Ltd, Channel Four Television Corporation and ITV Digital.

Alan Cummings Chief Financial Officer, International Division

Alan joined Active International in 2002 and in 2014 became Chief Financial Officer for the International Division.

Alan is a chartered accountant with a broad-based business background, including 14 years at Deloitte supporting growth-driven subsidiaries of overseas groups, Global Financial Controller for the outsourced IT Production at UBS Warburg, before opting for a dramatic change of environment at an internet start up.

 He also has a sense of humour, which is probably why he’s still here after 16 years.


Lana Ilchenko SVP Global Financial Planning and Analysis

Lana joined Active International in 2003 as part of the media team and has completed industry training to specialise in the financial side of the business.

She graduated in 2000 in Ukraine with a Masters Degree in International Economics and moved to the UK soon after. After two years on the media team learning as much as possible about corporate trade and advertising, Lana moved to the finance department and has since become an ACCA qualified accountant. She started her current role in 2009 and in 2011, became Head of UK Finance. Lana is responsible for managing the Active’s fullfilment finances.

Mark Chippendale UK Managing Director

Mark joined Active International in 2012 as UK Managing Director. Mark was previously Commercial Director at CBS Outdoor, Media Director at News International and European VP, Sales at Yahoo. Prior to this he was at BSkyB for 14 years rising to the role of Director of Sales.

Gemma Atkinson Chief Operating Officer, International Division

Gemma joined Active International in 2011 as Head of Business Development, where she developed and implemented sales strategies for advertisers and media agencies in collaboration with Active UK's other departments.

 As International COO Gemma has responsibility for helping to set strategy and develop long term partnerships.


Media

Kieron Murphy Media Director

Kieron joined Active International in 2010 to head up Press and Out of Home within the Media team.

His CV, before Active, includes more than 10 years in the advertising marketplace. Having started out at Roche Pharmaceuticals, Kieron made his first move into Out of Home advertising with Boomerang, where he sold their diverse portfolio of targeted media properties. From there, he moved to Primesight, working across a number of major London Advertising agencies, and in 2006 joined the newly formed Titan Outdoor to become Head of Trading.

Laura Dawson Head of Media

Laura graduated from Keele University in 2007 with a BA in English and History and moved to London to pursue a career in media.

Laura worked at Titan Outdoor for two years, first as a Sales Planner and then as an Account Manager. She went on to work for JCDecaux, utilising a wide spectrum of OOH environments and formats to construct detailed and innovative responses to briefs and sales pitches. In 2010, she went to work for the media specialist Posterscope as a Client Manager, with the main role of planning and buying media space.

Laura joined Active in April 2013 as Press & OOH Media Manager and in November 2016 became Senior Media Manager.  In November 2018, Laura became Head of Media.

Laura Learmouth Head of Media

After graduating from the University of Westminster with a BA in Business Management with Marketing, Laura immediately pursued her career in media by joining Channel 5 as Assistant Executive within the sales team.

Throughout Laura’s ten years at Channel 5 she progressed through the ranks to the role of Business Manager and was responsible for building and developing strong and retentive relationships with agencies, negotiating both existing and new business which drove significant sales revenue for Channel 5.  

Laura joined Active in August 2015 as a Senior Media Manager. In November 2018, Laura became Head of Media.

Chris Stone Media Manager - Broadcast & Digital

Chris graduated from Sheffield Hallam University with a BSC in Sports Management in 2004 and spent a short time travelling the east coast of America working in a sports marketing & promotions role for Sports Endeavors. After returning to London, Chris began his career in media in 2006, first spending seven and a half years at ITV where he built up his experience and developed relationships with some of London’s biggest above the line advertising agencies in the broadcast industry.


He then joined the intu Experiences team in 2014, gaining a deep understanding of experiential campaign management while working with many below the line advertising agencies. Chris joined the Active team as a Broadcast and Digital Media Manager in November 2015.

Caren Nicholls Media Manager - Broadcast & Digital

Caren is one of Active International’s longest serving team members, having started her career as Personal Assistant to the then Managing Director.

In 2001, she moved into the media department where she is now Media Account Manager and is responsible for the vital task of maintaining and growing the company’s various media owner relationships.

Lucie Wrightson Media Manager - Press & OOH

Lucie graduated from Manchester University in 2011 with a BA in Business and Economics. She then went on to complete a Post Graduate diploma in Accountancy, Finance and Business at Newcastle University. Lucie moved to London in 2012, where she joined Havas media as a press and radio buyer. Lucie joined Active in September 2014 as a Digital and Broadcast Executive. In November 2018, Lucie became the Media Manager for Press & OOH.

Stacey Hollis Senior Media Executive - Press & OOH

After studying English and Art & Design, Stacey joined Active International in 2009 as a Personal Assistant to the Managing Director and Director of Media Trading. In 2010, she moved into a frontline role within the team as a Media Coordinator. As she became more involved with the day to day trading of non-broadcast media, Stacey was promoted to Media Executive.

Russell Tolley Senior Media Executive - Broadcast & Digital

Russell has worked in a variety of industries that include music, film and advertising. In the role of Assistant Accountant, Russell is looking to further his career in finance. He is also studying for a professional qualification as a management accountant.

In November 2018, Russell became Senior Media Executive.

Juliet Shakinovsky Media Executive – Press & OOH

After completing university in Sydney with a BA (psychology major) and Masters in com management, Juliet moved to London where she entered the world of advertising. Having worked as a Sales Executive and Account Manager at an outdoor media owner, Juliet has experience working with both agencies and clients direct across a number of sectors including retail, health and wellbeing, recruitment and beauty.

 Juliet joined the world of barter in 2017 as a Media Executive across Broadcast and Digital. In 2018, Juliet moved across to Press & OOH.

Georgia Myers Media Coordinator

Georgia studied Business and English Literature before progressing into a role in retail. She then moved into a customer service position for a car insurance company.

Georgia made her transition into media, working frontline at Active UK within the media team as a Media Coordinator.

Amy Bartlett Media Coordinator

Amy joined Active UK in May 2018, working alongside the media team as a Media Coordinator.


Before joining Active Amy studied Film and Television production before progressing onto a role as a receptionist in a Hair salon. She then moved on to work in another receptionist role at an energy renewing company. 



Agency Relations

Jarrod Gowland-Smith Director of Agency Relations

Jarrod joined Active International in 2010 as Head of Broadcast & Digital, but had been trading with the company for a number of years through his various media roles.

After graduating in 2000 from Surrey University with a Media degree, he spent two years at FIVE TV before moving into radio and working as a Planner at Classic FM. In 2003, he joined cinema specialist Pearl & Dean where he was a Senior Account Manager.

 In November 2018, Jarrod became the Director of Agency Relations.

Andy Farwell Consultant

Andy spent 20 years at ITV with roles including Sales Director and has since spent one year at RTE and eight years at Viacom in Ireland. For the past five years, Andy has been working in Ireland in a barter capacity.

Andy acts as a consultant for Active International in Ireland

Emily Humphrey Head of Agency Relations

Emily joined Active in 2015, and is responsible for developing and managing relationships with Active’s agency partners. She has over 11 years of barter and capital investment experience, having joined from Interpublic’s Orion Worldwide, where she held senior positions in both the US and UK.   

Neesha Coelho Head of Agency Relations

Neesha joined the Active Melbourne team in May 2012 in the newly created role of Media Manager. Neesha previously held various sales roles at ACP Magazines and Channel Seven.

As Media Manager, Neesha's role is to develop and manage relationships with Active's clients, media agencies and media trading partners within VIC, SA & WA.

Neesha holds a Bachelor of Media & Communication degree with majors in Cinema & Production.

In 2015, Neesha made the transition to Active UK as Senior Media Manager. In November 2018, Neesha progressed to Head of Agency Relations.


Client Relations

John Charlesworth Director of Client Relations

John joined Active International in 2008 to run the Press and Outdoor Trading team and was promoted in 2011 to the role of Head of Commercial Partnerships.

John started his career in 1995 in ad sales for Express Newspapers, working across The Daily Express, Daily Star and Autoexpress magazine. After a stint in magazine ad sales, he began a long career in outdoor advertising with leading media owners such as Maiden, Primesight and Admedia, occupying a number of senior positions including Sales Director.

 In November 2018, John became the Director of Client Relations

Alex Beeden Head of Client Relations

Alex joined Active International in January 2012 as Broadcast Trading Manager, continuing in this role for two and half years before moving into the commercial team to take up the Commercial Partnership Manager role.  Previously, Alex worked on the broadcast team at Carat for over four years and in sales at ITV for two years. In 2018, Alex became Head of Client Relations.

Ellie Farrar Client Relations Manager

Ellie joined Active in 2016 as Commercial Partnership Exec after 3 years of working for a small OOH media owner. In 2018 she moved onto the Client team to concentrate specifically on building client relationships.


Sarah Younger Commercial Manager

Sarah joined the Active International Commercial team in 2005 and has worked in the Corporate Barter industry since 2000.

Sarah's primary role is to re-sell inventories within the Active Remarketing division. Her responsibilities extend to maintaining the day to day operations in the Business Services department.

Prior to moving into Barter, Sarah worked at Xerox for 5 years.


Finance

Anthony Woolley UK Finance Director

Anthony is an experienced chartered accountant who joined Active International in 2016.  Prior to Active he spent 7 years in various roles at Informa Plc predominantly in Shared Services focussing on creating best practices, enabling the group to quickly and efficiently integrate its acquisitions and thus leverage its scale.  

Anthony qualified with Wilkins Kennedy where he worked across a wide range of clients and industries including FMCG, construction and manufacturing.  In addition Anthony has also worked at Tesco Plc and Fisher Corporate. 

Michael Valko Financial Accounting Manager

Michael joined Active International in 2017 bringing with him ten years of accountancy experience.

Prior to Active he spent 10 years in working in audit where he gained his chartered accountancy qualification.  He managed a broad portfolio of clients, including theatre companies and commodity traders, before deciding to put his experience into practice at Active. 

Emily Meers AP & AR Manager

After graduating from Leeds Metropolitan University with a 2:1 in Accounting and Finance, Emily joined the Active International family in July 2013. Emily is currently studying for a professional qualification as a Management Accountant.

Paul Stubbs Finance Manager

Paul came to Active International in early 2011 after graduating from Essex University with a degree in Accounting and Finance.

He is currently working towards a professional qualification as a Management Accountant.

Will Singleton Financial Analyst

Will joined Active International’s finance team in 2011, following a year of credit control experience. Will is planning on working towards a professional qualification as a Certified Chartered Accountant.

Rebecca Poole Assistant Accountant

Rebecca graduated De Montfort University in 2012 with a degree in Accounting and Finance. After moving to London in June 2014, she joined Active in July. She qualified with ACCA in Dec 2017 after studying for her exams at Active International.

 

Danielle Nartey Nevin Accounts Receivable

Danielle graduated from Queen Mary University of London in 2009 with a 2:1 in Business management. After this she had a range of roles from Marks & Spencer, Barclays & Guardian News & Media which gave her exposure to various industries. Danielle joined the Active family in September 2017 & is CIMA part qualified. She intends to complete her qualification in the coming months. 

 

Annie Jarvis Accounts Payable

After graduating with a 2:1 in Accounting and Finance from Canterbury Christ Church University, Annie joined Active in July 2017.  She is aiming to begin studying for an ACCA qualification in 2018 to become a fully qualified accountant.

Travel & Events

Carly Barrett Travel & Events Commercial Manager

Carly spent five years growing her family business before working on contracts for digital media houses and property development companies. Originally working as our Travel and Events manager, in November 2018.

Carina Rizzo Travel and Events Executive

Carina studied Business and Education before attending London Metropolitan University for Psychology. She has worked in administration, PA roles and in-house events at UCL. The experience of working at UCL spurred Carina to pursue a career in travel and events. Carina joined Active International in September 2015 as Travel and Events Coordinator.

David Mason Travel and Events Coordinator

David graduated with a Maths degree from Loughborough University in 2011 before spending the next few years in the ski industry with summers in the UK and winters in France and Austria. Eventually, he decided to stay in the UK and use his travel industry experience to branch out, joining Active International in 2017. 


Marketing

Pauline Bernfeld Marketing Manager

Pauline joined Active in September 2016 and has worked in marketing since 2008.

Her previous experience includes Nature Publishing Group, where she worked initially within Ad Operations and then as the Commercial Marketing Manager for sponsorship sales.  More recently, Pauline worked for a boutique private investment and advisory company, providing marketing support to a diverse portfolio of start-up companies, which then led to a dedicated role as Marketing Manager for a national chain of skincare clinics.

 


Human Resources

Holly Shiell Head of HR

Holly joined Active International as HR Manager in November 2016 and comes to us with 9 years of HR experience from within the media industry.

Holly previously worked at Turner Broadcasting and Monster where she held generalist HR roles as well as Razorfish (part of Publicis Groupe) where, in her role as HR Projects Manager, she focused on international HR strategy and initiatives.

In her standalone role at Active, Holly is responsible for all aspects of HR with a focus on developing our talent.


IT

Chris Bingham Senior IT Manager

Chris came to Active International in 2005 after more than 10 years of supporting users and computer infrastructures at a variety of organisations. Based in the London office, he is responsible for Active’s UK IT operations.

He started out at Viglen Ltd, a computer OEM, which he joined on an industrial placement and left six years later as a Technical Support Supervisor.  He went on to manage helpdesks for NHS Direct and L’Oreal before moving into media and his current role with Active International.


Admin

Laura Jarvis Executive Assistant to the CEO and Management Team

Laura joined Active International in October 2013 after working as a Team Assistant at Dachis Group for two years. From 2009-2011 she travelled throughout Asia and Australia where she worked for Aegis Media and Citibank.

Chloe Fox Office Manager & Personal Assistant to Directors

Chloe joined Active International in January 2017 having previously worked at Shortlist Media as the Logistics and Production Executive. Chloe was responsible for the print and distribution of Shortlist and Stylist magazines as well as administrative duties. At Active, Chloe looks after everyone at the office, assists the directors and makes sure everything runs smoothly
