Being experts in Travel & Events, Active are always looking towards what’s next for our industry. That means staying informed and engaged with our community so that ultimately, we can better serve our partners. Active’s stellar Travel & Events Manager Carly Barrett recently attended The Buyers Network Club, a show for event professionals to network and knowledge share. Here are some of her takeaways.

Historically, the Buyers Network Club (BNC) has been hosted on board the impressive HMS Belfast (much to the dismay of those who suffer seasickness) however 2016 brought the summer networking event to London’s Gibson Hall, a stone’s throw away from Bank station.

The BNC is a great opportunity to not only check out a new venue but also to network with suppliers both new and old. Gibson Hall dates back to 1862 and is as grand as it is traditional. It would be well-suited for large conferences, with a main room able to facilitate 500 people, theatre style. There is also the Garden Room which could lend itself to being a breakout room or refreshment space.

Walking into the main hall, I am greeted by Curzon Cinemas, a familiar brand as we’ve recently done some work with them. We traded Jacquart Champagne for event space, which, on behalf of an agency client, we enabled a 10 strong media owner presentation complete with drinks reception and food for 140 people. It’s great to see my Curzon contact again and we reminisce on how successful the event was and how barter was a key contributor for all parties.

Exploring the exhibition hall, I’m able to meet with other familiar faces and get the latest from their side. This is why the BNC works so well; the Travel & Event industry is such a fast-paced environment with people moving to new roles and companies regularly, not to mention people time-strapped for face-to-face catch-ups. An event like this allows buyers like me to strengthen relationships, new and old, in a casual environment.

One afternoon out of the office has enabled me to meet many new suppliers across the Travel & Event sector and likewise, I’m able to explain the benefit of barter to new suppliers like Como Hotels, Ideas Box and Pride of Britain Hotel Group, all of which I feel we could be of great help to….so watch this space!
