Royal wedding fever sparks buying frenzy with merchandise sales expected to top £1.7billion
ROYALISTS are set to splurge £1.7billion in an unexpected
wave of wedding fever.
Experts have said we will shell out an average of £59.21 on
mementos and £115.89 each on food and booze – more than
had been predicted.
The big spenders are under-25s with a third planning to
celebrate on April 29.
Retail industry adviser Active International said coins and
mugs were the most sought-after memorabilia, but it warned
there were only enough biscuits, lollipops, masks and
chocolates to meet one tenth of demand.
Its UK MD Dean Wilson said: “This certainly refutes claims
that the country is suffering from royal wedding fatigue.”
